We provide our footwear customers with a complete line of prescription footwear from many major brands. Our certified practitoners are fully qualified to fit all types of shoe inserts and orthotics. We take pride in our specialty to fabricate custom-made shoes for the difficult-to-fit patient.
Medicare Reimbursments for Diabetic Shoes
Medicare/diabetic patients should be aware that Medicare may reimburse
for diabetic shoes.
Medicare coverage includes reimbursement for custom molded or extra
depth shoes and inserts recommended by your physician as follows:
Within each calendar year, Medicare will reimburse for either but not both:
- 1) One pair of custom molded shoes, including the inserts provided
with them, and two additional pairs of inserts or - 2) One pair of extra depth shoes, NOT including the inserts provided with them
and three pairs of replacement inserts.
Your doctor must provide you with a letter describing your condition, which you
must give to your Orthotist during your office visit. The letter must include:
A statement that you have diabetes
A statement that you have one or more of the following:
- Previous amputation or partial amputation of the foot
- History of previous ulceration of the foot
- Pre-ulceration callus formation of the foot
- Peripheral neuropathy with a history or callus formation
- Foot deformity
- Poor circulation
- The physician's certification that you are being treated under a comprehensive plan of care for diabetes and need extra depth shoes.
